CARDIOLOGIST CONSULTATION

  • Cardiology consultation is your opportunity to describe to your physician the problems or concerns that prompted the consultation. It is important to be well prepared for your consultation. Think about the main issues that you would like addressed by the cardiologist, and even consider writing them down in advance. Please bring a list of your current medications, as well as diagnostic tests that you may have already undergone. This initial visit is a comprehensive evaluation not only of your current symptoms, but of your past medical history as well. It will involve a detailed review of all significant medical issues, including a review of your family history, lifestyle habits (such as diet, smoking, and alcohol use) and other risk factors for heart disease. After the history is obtained, your physician will then perform a comprehensive physical examination. Your examination may include other ancillary tests such as chest X rays, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and laboratory tests. If indicated, your physician may also recommend further diagnostic testing such as stress tests, nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms, or CT scanning of the heart. After completion of your examination and pertinent diagnostic testing, your physician will then outline a treatment plan which may include recommendations for lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, weight loss, etc.), as well as the potential need for medications, interventional procedures and/or surgery to treat your cardiovascular issues. Basically cardiology consultation is usually requested by your general Physician, family doctor or sometimes another specialist.

NON INVASIVE SERVICES
Non-invasive cardiologists focus on the detection and treatment of heart disease, using external tests—rather than instruments inserted into the body—to evaluate and diagnose cardiac disorders. Patients with a history of heart disease, suspected valve disease or chest pain with unknown cause may be referred by their physician for a non-invasive evaluation. The clinical team is available to see and diagnose patients with advanced and unstable heart disease and provide expert care both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. There are a variety of different tests that the Cardiologist can carry out to evaluate the condition of your heart and diagnose any problems. None of them involve incisions to your body. Tests include ECGs, exercise testing, tilt table testing, Holter monitoring and 2D echocardiography, 3D echocardiography and vascular doppler studies .

ANGIOGRAPY AGIOPLASTY
Coronary angiography is a test to show the blood supply to the heart. The usual way of doing this is to pass a tube from the artery in wrist (right or left) or groin. Dye is injected that show up on X-rays and outline the artery to the heart. If a narrowing in the main artery is found it is widened by blowing up a balloon past through the tube to the artery this is called angioplasty. Often a stent is inserted into the streched segment of the artery to hold it open and slow down re-narrowing. Bypass Surgery and modern treatment with drug and life style alteration may be another option. Same procedure is used to see the artery to the brain, kidneys, legs etc and is known as carotid angiography, renal angiography and peripheral angiography and angioplasty. CT Coronary Angiography : Is a OPD based (no admission needed) non-invasive painless examination of coronary arteries which supply blood to heart muscles. It is safe procedure which can localise, visualise and quantify the earliest possible evidence of coronary disease.
DEVICE CLOSURE
The percutaneous closure of ASD, VSD & PDA is performed using a special closure device. The device is folded or attached on to a special catheter, similar to the catheter used during your catheterization. The special catheter is inserted into a vein in the leg and advanced into the heart and through the hole. The device is slowly pushed out of the special catheter allowing each side of the device to open up and cover each side of the hole (like a sandwich), closing the hole or defect. When the device is in proper position, it is released from the special catheter. Over time, heart tissue grows over the implant, becoming part of the heart. The Device closure procedure is monitored by X-ray.
ELECTRO PHYSIOLOGY
The Cardiac Electrophysiology Service offers specialized treatment to patients who are diagnosed with arrhythmias, Heart Blocks and heart failure. Our understanding of the processes that lead to heart failure enables us to take effective steps to change the course of the disease. The Cardiac Electrophysiology Service is dedicated to treating a patient as a whole person and to delivering the highest level of comprehensive care. Our mission is to provide patients with treatments that slow disease progression, prolong survival, and improve quality of life. Patients at the Cardiac Electrophysiology Service have a team that will monitor and work with them to tailor therapies to their specific needs. Various Cardiac electrophysiologist Services are Pacemaker Implantation Single & Double Chamber, CRT, ICD, CRT-D and RF ablations for Supra ventricular tachycardia and Ventricular tachycardia .
MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY
To provide patients with a full range of treatment options, one of the many procedures performed is minimally invasive surgery. Depending on the patient and condition being treated, this can be an excellent alternative to conventional "open" surgery that typically involves large incisions. This technologically advanced option, which can include robotic-assisted techniques, requires incisions just a few millimeters in length. The small incisions create a passageway for special surgical instruments and a fiber-optic instrument called a laparoscope. The device transmits images from within the body to a video monitor, allowing the surgeon to see the operative area on the screen. This approach enables physicians to perform many kinds of major surgery with less patient trauma and pain, minimal scarring, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays. The Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department is giving Word Class facilities. The state of the art cardiothoracic department comprises a team of highly experienced and competent surgeons for round the clock treatment and care of Cardiac surgical patients. The Cardiac surgical team is fully trained to tackle all types of cardiac surgical patient like
  • Routine and Emergency coronary bypass

  • Valve replacements

  • Beating heart Surgery

  • Use of arterial grafts

  • Carotid and Coronary endarterectomies

  • Unstable patients on intra aortic balloon pump support or compromised ventricular functions

  • Combines procedures like Coronary bypass and valve replacement

  • Operated Cardiac Surgical patients are looked after by trained and efficient cardiac nurses in the recovery room, one nurse to one patient. The recovery room is well equipped to take care of all eventualities with round the clock monitoring facilities for pacing ventilation and cardio version etc.
WHY A COMPREHENSIVE HEART CHECK UP?
Most Victims of heart attack do not know about the disease until the heart attack stike. Indians are genetically 3 times more vulnerable to heart attack than western counterparts. Every 4th person has a heart attack before retirement.
